Activists to talk on body donation – The Times of India

NAGPUR: The city has two government hospitals where people can approach for body and eye donations. However, lack of knowledge about the procedure restrains the number of donors. In order to increase awareness on the issue, the body donation committees of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) are jointly organizing body donation awareness programme on Wednesday.

Social activist and freedom fighter Umesh Choube would be the chief guest while dean of GMCH Dr Abhimanyu Niswade will be the guest of honour. Several activists involved in spreading awareness about body donation would be speaking on various topics. These include Dr Meena Meshram, Chandrakant Mehar and Ramesh Satpute. The programme will be held at API Hall, GMCH, at 4pm.

“Even today, most people have misconceptions about body and organ donation. In many cases, people don’t know how to go about it at all. The programme aims at addressing all the issues,” said Dr Meshram, who is the head of GMCH’s anatomy department. She said that the resource people would address any queries from the audience.
