Chest Hospital still in the eye of the storm – The Hindu

Chest Hospital, Erragadda, continued to remain in the eye of the storm with members of various political parties and employee unions from a host of government organisations coming out in the open to express support for their cause.

Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah ridiculed the government’s decision to shift the hospital to Vikarabad and promised to go to any extent to prevent this from happening.

“We will stop this attempt of the government at any cost. On what basis has the State government taken this illogical decision of shifting this hospital to the outskirts? Already, there is a lot of negativity among the public towards the government. We demand that the government immediately call an all party meet to discuss the issue,” Ponnala said.

The TPCC chief was accompanied by a host of top Congress leaders including Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and their followers.

Meanwhile, several senior doctors from other government hospitals including ENT Hospital, Koti, Mental Hospital, Erragadda, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehdipatnam turned up in large numbers. Representatives from employee unions from government organisations also visited the hospital and took part in the protest meet.

Senior doctors were critical of the central committee of Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA).“Who are they (TGDA) to take on our behalf? Patients from Hyderabad and nearby areas will suffer if this happens. We challenge TGDA members to visit the Chest Hospital once and explain their position,” doctors demanded.

People covered their faces with masks even as they participated in three different walks in Hyderabad for a cause – to spread awareness on Cancer, Leprosy and charity. Here are some photographs clicked by The Hindu lensmen Nagara Gopal and G. Ramakrishna.
