is looking for ADULT VOLUNTEERS — for its library recording program. Joining us this morning with more.. Lei Nihei – with the Hawaii State Public Library System — And Deanna Espinas of the FRIENDS of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Good morning. Lei Nihei and Deanna Espinas: The Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped serves a dual role as a branch library of the Hawaii State Public Library System and a regional library for the National Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress . LBPH serves those who are unable to read or use regular print materials due to a visual or physical disability. The Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped of the Hawaii State Public Library System has an urgent need for adult volunteers to assist with our Transcribing Services Section. These adult volunteers will serve as readers for our popular recording program. Narrators are needed to read and record local books in their entirety. An audition is required. The ability to read local dialect, Hawaiian, Asian, and other languages as necessary is required. Adult volunteers are also needed to assist with our Radio Reading Service program to provide a “live” reading of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on closed circuit radio, over a sub channel of KHPR, featuring front page local news and other feature articles, Monday through Friday in 4-hour blocks. In addition, adult volunteer readers will read grocery store ads, and ads from retail stores such as Longs Drugs Store and Don Quijote. Readers will also read feature stories from MidWeek. Auditions are required to ensure that reading is done correctly and in accordance with national standards. Readers need to be familiar with the pronunciation of local names and places.
