iCare-Info-February2014-Eye-makeupA general myth for many women is that makeup and contact lenses cannot go hand in hand. A certain amount of fear always haunts the wearer about having discomfort and infections in the eye. However, the good news is that with some tips and precautions wearing makeup with contact lens is completely safe and healthy.
Consider the following safety tips next time you apply makeup when wearing contact lenses:
Keep it clean
Always wash and dry your hands before touching your eyes or your contact lenses. It is very important to handle the contact lens with clean hands as dirty hands or presence of lotion or cream on your hands increases the risk of irritation and infection.
Choice of products
Make sure the makeup products you use are safe enough to be worn with lenses. It is advisable to use hypoallergenic make-up products to help avoid irritation of your eyes.
How to apply
Wear the lenses before you start applying any makeup to your eye. Choose waterproof products for eye makeup so that they don’t drain away with water or sweat. Also avoid applying eyeliner to the inner part of your eyelid. When applying powder eyeshadow, keep your eye closed and brush off any excess before opening your eye. If you use cream eyeshadow, be careful not to get it into your eyes. Always use a water-based cream eyeshadow if you choose to use cream instead of powder.
Storing lenses
Safe storage of lenses ensures its longevity and prolonged usage.Always store lenses at a secure place away from the reach of children and infants. Also, try keeping it away from any other cosmetics or makeup products.
Removing makeup and lenses
It is advisable to take off your lenses before you take off your makeup. For removing eye makeup use water-based makeup removers. Don’t pull or tug your eye and use soft cotton balls to do the same.
