Cindy Crawford may be accustomed to posing for Omega’s cameras, but on Thursday night, the watch brand’s spokesmodel of 20-plus years toasted a new milestone in their relationship. She and her teenage daughter Kaia were on hand at the New York Historical Society to celebrate their role in “Hospital in the Sky” — a documentary that took them to Trujillo, Peru, volunteering on a medical mission with blindness-prevention charity Orbis. “As a mother, I really related to the mothers that were waiting for their children when they were in surgery,” Crawford told WWD of what it was like to stand by as Orbis performed strabismus and cataract surgeries in the region.

“The thing that was most impressive was how so many of the doctors and the nurses are volunteers — [practicing medicine is] what they do year-round, and then on their vacation they go and do it for free, for people in poor countries,” she said.

Nearby, Omega president Stephen Urquhart said that the company is particularly enthralled by Orbis because its cause is “easy to relate to.”

“It’s not some exotic disease; it’s something really hands-on. You can really talk about it and get involved — it’s universal.”

Omega will donate a portion of sales from each Constellation Star timepiece to benefit Orbis, and it will launch a teddy-bear campaign so that young patients will each receive one to comfort them after surgery.
