Martin Padgett, Clark Memorial’s president and CEO, said in a statement following a closed-door meeting Tuesday that it’s currently exploring an option presented by Norton Healthcare and LifePoint Hospitals through their joint venture, Regional Health Network of Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Padgett added the venture “combines the clinical resources and expertise of Norton Healthcare with LifePoint’s financial strength and experience operating community hospitals, much like ours.”

In January 2013, the fledgling venture finalized its first acquisition, Scott Memorial Hospital. Norton Healthcare and LifePoint agreed to invest $3 million in the hospital by 2018 and collaborate with Scott Memorial to strengthen its services, invest in new technology and recruit physicians, among other things.

Financial and other details of the latest Clark Memorial proposal have not been publicly discussed during recent hospital board meetings, though any merger or acquisition plan would require approvals from Clark County leaders because Clark Memorial is owned by the county.
