“We’ve reached out to the homeless shelters, outreach centers, re-entry programs, low income/no income, and women and children’s shelters and invited them to come receive the gift of sight,” said Scelelar Jefferson, UAB School of Optometry clinical coordinator.

About 240 people are already signed up to receive free eye care at a “Gift of Sight” event this Saturday, according to UAB spokesperson Nicole Wyatt.

Clothing items collected will be given to those in need at the “Gift of Sight” events being hosted today through Saturday by Community Eye Care. At those events, people with limited or no access to vision care will receive free exams and eye glasses.
