Equal Opportunity Office and Centre of Russian Studies, JNU along with Antardrishti organised the Lecture-cum-Presentation on “Understanding Eye Donation” on 24th January, 2014 at Committee Room, School of Language, Literature & Cultural Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. About 45 students and faculty members from various Centres of the University participated in this event.
Mr. Akhil Srivastava, Managing Trustee, Antardrishti and Mr. Prashant Tandon were the key speakers. After showing six short documentary films (Kash, Ummid, Ritu wants 2 C, Uncle Teddy, I 4 U, Rumi) on eye donation promotion, they talked on the following points with the help of PowerPoint presentation:
• What is eye donation?
• Significance of eye donation
• Procedure of eye donation
• Who all can donate eyes?
• Data and updates on Visually impaired in India and abroad
• Myths related to eye donation
After the lecture questions were welcomed and responded to various issues such as myths, facts, present conditions and difficulties of VH people, etc. Students were motivated and enthusiastic after getting various new facts and experience from the speakers.
The Chief Advisor of Equal Opportunity Office, JNU, Professor Manu Mittal gave a vote of thanks to Mr. Akhil Srivastava and Prashant Tandon for their efforts and urged to organise such kind of lecture at bigger level. The Chairperson of CRS, Professor Nasar Shakeel Roomi also expressed gratitude to Antardrishti and requested to organise the talk on organ donation along with eye donation. Mr. Nitish Kumar on the behalf of all the students especially thanked the Antardrishti to initiate their Yatra (Journey) of 2014 to promote eye donation from JNU.
